Some news about the band, the new albums and other stories...

July 25, 2004:

Another two years have past since the last update. A review of the new album "Un" finally marks the time to say good-bye, Chumbawamba! After having a good time during the last more than 10 years.

July 27, 2002:

I just added a review of the new album READYMADES.

June 26, 2002:

After almost two years I finally managed to do an update to this page but since I haven't had a lot of time to find some original content, this update will be mainly about the new album READYMADES, which is already out in the US and coming to Europe and the UK later this year on Chumbawamba's own label.

You can find the lyrics and some the liner notes (which are not included in the CD) on the official site by clicking here.

There are also some very nice promotional photo shots for the album which can be found by clicking here.

And then there is also a Chumbawamba ecard which you can send to your friend if you like. It can be viewed by clicking here.

Or you can download it to your Macintosh by following this link: here (size: 2,2MB)
And the poor Windows-people will have to click here (size: 1,5MB).

This is all for today and hopefully it won't take another two years for the next update. Now I better get back to working on my master thesis... :-)

July 16, 2000:

Chumbawamba have re-recorded their anti-fascist anthem "Enough Is Enough" as a gesture of solidarity towards Austrian anti-fascists and have made the track available for free download.
The track was originally recorded in 1994 as a collaboration with rapper MC Fusion of Birmingham band Credit To The Nation.
In light of recent events in Austria, where far right leader Jorg Haider was elected in a coalition government as part of the far right FPO, Chumbawamba have decided to update the lyrics to the song and re-record it under the title 'Enough Is Enough (Kick It Over)'.
Instead of releasing the song commercially, the band plan to give it away free, and already have done at gigs in Austria on June 23 and July 8.
Speaking about their reasons for the re-recording of the track, Chumbawamba said: "We have no plans to make a commercial release of 'Enough Is Enough', the CD is a gesture of solidarity towards Austrian anti-fascists...Pop culture isn't neutral. Chumbawamba are joining with anti-fascists in calling Enough Is Enough."

February 10, 2000:

New album: "WYSIWYG": correct track listing plus the cover artwork
New Single: "She's Got All The Friends That Money Can Buy": track listing plus the cover artwork

I forgot to say it in the last update but Paul has left the band. Neil Ferguson is the new bass player. More details can be found on the official page.

February 8, 2000:

The release date for the single "She's Got All The Friends That Money Can Buy" is set to February 22nd in Europe.
And the album "WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)" should be on the shelves on April 4th.
People in Japan will be the first to get the new album, as the Japanese release date will be March 8th for both, the album and the single, and there might be bonus tracks on the album.

This email reached the mailing list in late January:
"I'm pleased to inform the list of a population explosion in the city of Leeds.
On saturday morning 16/1/00 Danbert Nobacon's good lady wife Laura gave birth to twins. A boy and a girl, Carson and Stella. All doing well. Then on the thursday 20/1/00 Alice gave birth to a little girl, Mae Rose, of whom I am the proud father. Quite an experience I can tell you.
All the best
Keir"
Congratulations to all of them!

January 7, 2000:

This time I present you an exclusive preview of the new album (pre-final mix).
Plus a "step-by-step"-guide through every song.

The first single will be called "She's got all the friends" and should be out in late february .

November 11, 1999:

According to german music mag intro (http://www.intro.de/) paul from "chumbawumba"(sic!) will be performing in hannover on friday 26-11 as part of a tribute to german songwriter klaus lage. other acts will include german stars like fury in the slaughterhouse, be or gautsch. what exactly paul has to do with little fatty klaus lage (think a balding man with beard and beer-belly who's been annoying the german public with his soft-rock aor-songs since the late 70s, one huge hit in the early 80s and a lot of nothing since) is not exactly clear, but the event promises to be good for a few laughs.

Update: Does anyone have some infos about this concert ?

August 20, 1999:

According to recent email from Alice, the new album is "finally talking a shape that we're really happy with - not at all like tubthumper. i'm really glad we had a gap but it's good to feel excited about chumbawamba again."

Sorry, no news about the planned release date. But should be out in Fall / Winter this year.

This interview has lots of infos about the new album:

Chums' make music in the bedroom

CHUMBAWAMBA are busy in band member Harry Hamer's bedroom - writing for their new album.

The band, who hit the headlines this week after branding acquitted suspects in the Stephen Lawrence murder case as "killers", have used the proceeds from their No 1 single Tubthumping to buy recording equipment.

They are recording new songs at Harry's home and once the material is finished they will mix the tracks at a studio in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

Burnley-born singer Alice Nutter told Pulse this week: "It is a pop album. It's a sort of concept album, although not in the same way as, say, Genesis."

"It's a mix-up of pop culture and politics and it may well offend people."

"We have always plundered every musical genre. That's why we've moved through jazz, punk, acapella - we are quite reactive."

"We've always tried to stand up and say what we believe, but we're also into three-minute throwaway pop songs.

"If we were just interested in politics we could go away and write pamphlets."

Alice explained the group's decision to take a break from touring this year and let music go on the back-burner.

She said: "We decided we had to stop being away all the time."

"We wanted to get back to the North and be around our friends."

"We're lucky in that we've sold four million albums and toured all over the world and we still have kept all our friends. We don't want to get on some rock and roll bandwagon."

Bumper Sticker
Maybe it's already common knowledge. It is just for the records:
Lou gave birth to Ivy in April 1999.
"Lou and Harry's baby has the nicest nature imaginable. She's fantastic!" (Alice)

I heard some rumors that there might be another "new" member coming in the next months...
